Position Overview: Outreach Coordinator/Community-Based Trainer (CBT) will be responsible for recruiting students, scheduling and delivering abstinence education sessions for the “I Can Wait… Will You?” Abstinence Education Program. This position entails outreach and recruitment of youth and parents primarily in Smith County to participate in abstinence education sessions/classes using the Choosing the Best Curriculum. The Coordinator will be responsible for promoting and delivering the “I Can Wait… Will You?” program in school settings, community centers, and various points of contact where youth and parents congregate. The Coordinator will also teach classes and secure locations, dates and times for classes.
Essential Job Functions: Conduct outreach and recruitment efforts with parents, youth and adults in Smith and Anderson county middle and high schools and churches; promote the “I Can Wait… Will You?” program in all community arenas; schedule presentations and prepare all appropriate materials; conduct parent, adult and youth classes; complete weekly progress reports; participate in the creation and distribution of newsletters and other promotional and educational materials; coordinate parent and guardian workshops and advisory council meetings with other team members; coordinate efforts with other abstinence education programs and community staff; participate in agency activities and required training; other duties as assigned and requested by Program Director.
Requirements: Associate’s degree and at least one year experience working with youth in classroom setting or other relevant experience; ability to communicate and enjoy working with diverse youth; strong, enthusiastic personality, a demonstrated ability to work with children and the public; experience with abstinence, health education, or teen pregnancy prevention programsa; working knowledge of the state of Texas in general and Smith, Rusk, Anderson and Gregg counties in particular; working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Publisher); prior experience teaching or leading classes/ instruction; creative, flexible, team player; TX Drivers License, reliable transportation and automobile insurance.
